Providers of substance abuse treatment recognize that most clients have trauma histories that complicate treatment and compromise recovery. Becoming trauma-informed is imperative, but it requires a shift in how we think about addiction and how we respond to the behaviors commonly seen in individuals with substance use disorders. Clinicians must translate both trauma and addiction research to create trauma-sensitive environments and trauma-focused interventions that effectively address both issues. Lunch will be provided between two three hour work shops.
