Event Description:
On September 13, 2017 the Carbon-Monroe-Pike Drug & Alcohol Commission will be hosting our 3rd annual Recovery Walk. September is National Recovery Month and the walk is meant to be an event that will celebrate those who are in recovery. We want to raise awareness to the fact that addiction is a disease that can be treated and managed so that the person with the disease can lead healthy, productive lives.
The event itself will take place in Lehighton, Pennsylvania at Community Grove Park located on 7th and Iron St. Beginning at 4:00pm, we will have a gathering at the park with a proclamation given by one of the county commissioners announcing Recovery Month. There will be a short walk through Lehighton ending back at the park. We hope to have a picnic during which we will have about three speakers. One or two will speak about his/her positive experience of recovery. The other speaker(s) will talk about how they have been a part of an addict’s support community as family member, friend, etc. our hope is to emphasize that recovery is a positive process that takes place in community.
We will also have various providers on hand who can give information about their services to the community.
