Every September, SAMHSA sponsors National Recovery Month to increase awareness and understanding of mental and substance use disorders and celebrate the people who recover. The annual theme is Join the Voices for Recovery: Strengthen Families and Communities.
Join the Orland Park Substance Awareness Forum (OPSAF) as we host our annual Recovery Month event which this year features a free screening of the documentary, "The Anonymous People." The FREE screening will be held at Orland Park's Marcus Theatres, 16350 South LaGrange Road, on Wednesday, September 27 from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
When it comes to the devastation of alcohol and drugs and the toll they take on individuals, families and communities, people are hungry for hope, 'The Anonymous People' is about the 23 million Americans living in long term recovery from addiction to alcohol and other drugs. We hear lots of negative stories about addition and its destruction but we don't hear much about the people who have found recovery.
The September 27th movie night will open with a welcome remarks from local leaders, resources for families in support of a loved one in recovery, free popcorn and pop, raffle prizes and time for discussion.
