Brisbane International Overdose Awareness Day 2017

Date & Time

  • Thursday, August 31, 2017 - 5:00pm to 7:00pm
Details
Event Description:
We’re turning Brisbane City purple again with some of our famous monuments turning their lights purple to support IOAD 2017 including City Hall, King George Square and Victoria Bridge. We are having a candle light vigil with messages from all around the world displayed on our purple hearts, every heart represents a life lost to overdose. We will have guest speakers from Queensland Ambulance Service, Brisbane Night Watch Chaplains, Jon’s Legacy and Family members who have lost their loved ones to overdose. We will also share a prayer and tribute song. We welcome everyone along to commemorate the lives lost or injured from overdose. Our guest speakers will talk about how to recognise the signs of overdose including the importance of Naloxone and what to do in an emergency situation. Death from overdose is preventable and we aim to educate the wider community on this issue so more lives can be saved. We also take this day to support the thousands of families who often suffer and grieve in silence due to the stigma attached to drug related death or injury.
