Event Description:
September 23, 2017 Randolph Fellowship Home will host our 1st Annual "Randolph Community Day". We will provide information to the public about the recovery services and resources available in our community and kick off the "Lock Your Meds Campaign". The Lock Your Meds® campaign is sponsored by the National Family Partnership to combat prescription drug abuse among youth. The target audience for Lock Your Meds® is 20-80 year-old adults, with the primary focus on keeping prescription and over-the-counter pharmaceuticals away from drug abusers. Many adults may be unwitting suppliers and by making adults aware of the problem we can curb the abuse by others. This purpose of this event is: Raise Awareness Recovery is defined as a process of change through which individuals improve their health and wellness, live a self-directed life, and strive to reach their full potential. There are treatment and recovery options for mental and substance use disorders and each recovery journey is unique. If you, a family member, or a friend needs help, resources are available. Educate our Community Oftentimes, individuals who experience a mental and/or substance use disorder feel isolated and alone. Yet, every year millions of Americans experience these conditions. It’s important that we offer support to individuals facing mental and/or substance use disorders. In fact, we need to create environments and relationships that promote acceptance. Support from families is essential to recovery, so it’s important that family members have the tools to start conversations about prevention, treatment, and recovery. Too many people are still unaware that prevention works and that mental and substance use disorders can be treated, just like other health problems. Provide Access to Resources Prevention works, treatment is effective and people can recover. There are options available here in Randolph County to help people seek treatment and sustain recovery. Whichever path a person chooses, it is important to find the treatment and recovery support that works best for him or her. Improve Personal Well-Being Individuals who embrace recovery achieve improved mental, physical and spiritual health as well as form stronger relationships with their families, neighbors, peers and employers. Persons in recovery hold jobs, pay taxes, raise families and contribute to their community. There are tens of thousands of North Carolina residents in recovery and thousands still in need of recovery. Save Lives On the average 3 people die from overdose in North Carolina every day. The 2017 theme, “Join the Voices for Recovery: Strengthen Families and Communities,” encourages communities to be socially inclusive, offering support to those with mental and/or substance use disorders, as well as the chance to seek help, lend a hand, and contribute to their community as citizens, parents, employees, students, volunteers, and leaders. Come Join The Voices For Recovery Every Life is Worth Saving!
