Voices for Recovery
I started using drugs at age 12 and I used recreationally till about age 20. I graduated with my Bachelor's degree at age 21, I was devastated when my boyfriend of 3 years left the country and I started using anything and everything daily. At age 37 I was arrested for drug possession and related felony charges. I went to treatment twice and was on probation for 5 years. I have been clean since December 27, 2000. After treatment I started attending Narcotics Anonymous, got a sponsor and worked the 12 steps. I remain active in recovery and sponsor other women and still attend meetings regularly. Last year I graduated and received a Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology. I am currently working as an LPC Intern in Texas. I love working with other addicts and I appreciate the companies that have hired me with the knowledge that I am in recovery and that I am a convicted felon. There is hope and we do recover.
