SAMHSA’s National Wellness Week
September 16th - 22nd, 2013
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s Office of Women’s Health (FDA/OWH) launched National Wellness Week to inspire the incorporation of the Eight Dimensions of Wellness into everyday life. These elements of a holistic lifestyle are: (1) mental; (2) emotional; (3) financial; (4) physical; (5) occupational; (6) intellectual; (7) social; and (8) spiritual.
The goal of SAMHSA’s National Wellness Week, which takes place during Recovery Month, is to increase awareness about wellness within our communities and to extend longevity and quality of life of people with mental and substance use disorders.
In 2012, the country rallied around recovery during SAMHSA’s National Wellness Week, holding a total of 210 events in 36 states and Puerto Rico. This year, let’s make it even bigger! Post your events to the Recovery Month event database (http://www.recoverymonth.gov/Community-Events.aspx) and let us know about your Wellness Week activities and actions by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
